Award-winning journalist Lora Painter anchors weekday mornings 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and Noon on Newschannel 3 the CBS affiliate in GrandRapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek. Before that, she anchored Newschannel 3 live at 5:30 weeknights, and frequently filled-in for the evening and late night newscasts.
She has a Master’s degree from New York University in Broadcast News & Documentary. She is a member of the National Academy of Arts and Science, Michigan Chapter, earning an Emmy nomination for her anchoring. Lora is also a member of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and has twice received their “Best Anchor” award.
Before moving to West Michigan, Lora was the lead anchor for News 10 Today from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. every weekday morning for the NBC affiliate in Lansing, Michigan. She made her live-television debut at San Diego 6 News, where she was also a video editor and newswriter. She has previously worked as a reporter, anchor and producer at the ABC affiliate in Medford, Oregon, and as a production assistant at the Fox News Channel headquarters for the documentary unit in New York City. She also self-produced a documentary on artists’ efforts to keep classical music alive. Lora also lived in South Korea for three years as a professor and ESL teacher.
As the solo producer of the 2-hour NewsWatch 12 This Morning weekday newscast in Medford, Lora was instrumental in increasing its share in its key demo by 42% year-to-year in May 2016. It was the market’s #1 newscast in May in all half hours, breaking records for its 6:30-7am which posted a 4.7/58 share — the best performance for any half-hour block of the morning newscast this decade.
In Kalamazoo, Lora wrote articles for 269 Magazine, centered on careers and business in west Michigan. It’s a partnership with Southwest Michigan First and WWMT, in which she also wrote and produced a news story to accompany each magazine article.
Lora started her career at local newspapers in southern California: The Coast News, The Pride, The Valley Chronicle. Lora has also freelanced for The Korea Times in Seoul, South Korea. Lora manages her own travel website, Travels with Lora. As an anchor, she manages her professional Facebook and Twitter accounts, posting stories daily to social media and the station website.

Born in the Philippines and raised in California, Lora’s curiosity and desire to learn new things has led her to many places around the world. She was an English professor at Anyang University, and taught ESL in South Korea for several years, and learned Korean along the way. She has explored many places like the thermal waters in Bath, Budapest and Taiwan; the beaches in Australia; bamboo forests in Kyoto; and punting in Cambridge.
Her love of the Arts has also enriched her journalism and travel experiences. She is a classically trained pianist, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of singing soprano in Mozart’s Requiem when she joined a choir in Seoul. In southern Oregon, Lora joined and performs with the Rogue Valley Chorale. Since moving to Michigan, she performs with the Meridian Community Band. Her passion for the written word is driven by her literary idols, such as Evelyn Waugh, Somerset Maugham, and Jane Austen.
Lora has a Master’s degree from New York University, in Broadcast News & Documentary. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University San Marcos with a degree in Communication.
